Janka Hardness Rating 1290 - With over 200 subspecies in North America; there is great variation in color and grain, depending on the origin of the wood and differences in growing seasons. Between White and Red Oak, Red is the more traditional choice of the two Oaks. Red Oak is popular for its light golden to reddish pink tones and its more unique and "wilder" grain patterns.
